The challenge
The project team needed to understand whether a project-specific fire engineering approach could address the notice and the proposed upgrade. The assessment had to consider occupant safety within the existing building, rather than assume that an outcome from another property would apply.
Beigman's work
Beigman developed a fire engineering Performance Solution supported by numerical fire and smoke modelling. The assessment investigated occupant safety and the proposed arrangement without the sprinkler installation, providing evidence for the Municipal Building Surveyor's review.
The outcome
The Municipal Building Surveyor reviewed and endorsed the Performance Solution. This allowed the project to proceed with the assessed alternative to the proposed sprinkler installation. The outcome depended on the assessment and conditions for this particular building.
