What is a Performance Solution?
The National Construction Code (NCC) sets performance requirements for buildings. Its Deemed-to-Satisfy provisions, often shortened to DTS, describe standard ways of meeting those requirements. A Performance Solution uses a different, assessed approach to demonstrate that the relevant requirements are met.
It is a project-specific assessment. A solution used on another building cannot simply be assumed to suit yours.

From the design question to the evidence
We review the proposal and discuss the scope with the relevant project parties. This helps establish the design brief: what is being assessed, which requirements apply and how the proposal will be evaluated.
The assessment may involve calculations, modelling or other supporting evidence suited to the issue. The resulting fire engineering report records the approach, findings and conditions. If the assessment identifies changes that are needed, the team can consider those before progressing the design.
Bring the project team into the discussion early
Early discussion gives your architect, building surveyor and other consultants an opportunity to coordinate the fire safety approach. Send the latest drawings, the proposed departure from the standard provisions and any comments already received. Include the project address and design stage so the initial discussion has the right context.

Does a Performance Solution guarantee approval?
No. The proposal needs suitable supporting evidence and must go through the relevant assessment and approval process. Its suitability depends on the building and the design being assessed.
