The challenge
The proposed increase in occupancy needed to be considered against the constraints of the existing building, including its available fire-isolated stairways. The team needed a fire engineering assessment that addressed those limits as part of the planned office fit-out.
Beigman's work
Beigman used computational evacuation modelling to assess occupant movement and support the proposed occupancy. The work provided a technical justification for the requested increase within the existing building arrangement.
The outcome
The tenant was able to proceed with the lease and its internal fit-out without constructing an additional stairway or undertaking other intrusive building works. The fire engineering work addressed the occupancy question in the context of this building and its existing escape routes.
